This tool allows you to upload a spreadsheet and compare two columns of numeric data. It calculates summary statistics, performs a t-test to compare the means, and generates visualizations (boxplots and histograms) so you can quickly see how the two distributions differ.
Note: This is an educational tool. Do not use it for sensitive or confidential data.
How to Use
1. Upload your spreadsheet: Click the “Choose a spreadsheet file” button and select the file you want to analyze.
2. Select two columns: After the file uploads, two dropdown menus will appear. Choose the two columns you’d like to compare.
3. View your results: The tool will automatically generate summary statistics for each column, a t-test comparing the means, and a boxplot and histogram of both distributions.
Notes on Analysis
The tool selects the type of t-test automatically based on the data:
1. Numeric, independent samples → two-sample t-test
2. Binary outcomes → two-sample t-test for binary data
3. Normally distributed (≥30 samples) → standard two-sample t-test
4. Non-normally distributed data → Welch’s t-test
Tips & Reminders
1. Do not upload personally identifiable information.
2. If you’re unsure whether your dataset is appropriate, consult your organization’s data policy.
3. For detailed instructions or help interpreting results, visit the Technical Directions page.
4. Try the tool with our sample dataset.
